EALA to play central role in implementation of SDGs

Nairobi: As the clock on the timeframe for Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) ticks away, the regional Assembly is gearing up to take a more central role in the implementation of the Post 2015 Agenda through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). EALA Members have today commenced on a two day sensitization workshop on promoting SDGs with a mantra to ensure the region realizes the set objectives of reducing poverty, achieving food security and enhancing gender equality amongst other development initiatives.

UN unveils SDG indicators for dissection

A consultation on the indicators to measure the success of the forthcoming Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was started yesterday by the UN Statistical Commission.  Governments, international agencies, civil society, academia and the private sector are asked to suggest which indicators are best suited to measure progress on the goals.

R&D spending is irrelevant without links to SDGs

Islamic finance to fund Sustainable Development Goals

Addis Ababa: Islamic Finance can serve as a strong and non-traditional source of financing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to global experts. As part of its commitment to the SDGs, the Islamic Development Bank has announced it will increase its funding of SDG related activities through its ten year strategy framework, from $80 billion recorded during the MDGs, to $150 billion over the next 15 years (2016-2030).

Kaberuka: Inclusive business is a key contributor to SDGs implementation

Abidjan: The African Development Bank President Donald Kaberuka has called for enhancement of policies to strengthen their role in growing inclusive business. Inclusive business, he said was an effective means of increasing private sector contribution towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). President Kaberuka was speaking at a forum, “Inclusive Business as a contributor to the SDG implementation”, which was held at the sidelines of the Financing for Development conference.
